We are a Jesuit apostolate promoting and addressing the mental health and wellbeing of the underserved filipino individuals and families through psychological interventions and family systemic approaches
Fr. Nilo, Founder of UGAT Foundation, Inc., is a renowned individual and family psychotherapist. He develops and facilitates workshops in UGAT on basic and advanced counselling skills, family dynamics and relationships, and other psycho-emotional, mental, and wellness related topics. He has reached out to various sectors of the Filipino population, such as the grassroot families, schools and institutions, dioceses and parishes, and government, non-government, and private organizations, both in local and global scenes.
He currently teaches in the graduate programs of the Loyola School of Social Sciences, Psychology Department of Ateneo de Manila University.

To be a partner in honing the emotional and relational well-being of Filipinos in the margins of society to live a meaningful and compassionate life.
EVERY HUMAN INDIVIDUAL is a child of God whose psychological, emotional and spiritual needs must be cared for within the context of a strong family and an empowering community of the Children of God.
WE CONSECRATE, therefore, our Psychoemotional and Pastoral expertise and experience in Integral Human Development to the service of the Individual, the Family and Society, with special preference to the Poor and Marginalized.
We shall actively harness to the fullest the psyche of the Individual, thereby strengthening the well-being of Families and building an empowering community of Faith, a Society of Human Persons under the Counsel of God.
We conduct our business by being guided by the following values
We believe that every individual is innately good, unique, and entitled to a respectable and decent life. We do our work with compassion and care for the individual and respect the choices made.
We have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of our internal and external stakeholders. We acknowledge that we are guided by spirituality and faith as we serve others. We have a commitment to give our best in everything that we do.
We abide by Christian morals and business ethics. We value an individual’s right to privacy. We are honest in our interactions and dealings. We are reliable as we deliver our commitments. We take accountability for decisions made and acknowledge our mistakes and shortcomings.
Understanding the mental health and wellness of an individual increases awareness of the self, thus helps in managing the self and the changes that inevitably happen, internally or externally.
In the Philippines, it is estimated that approximately six (6) million Filipinos experience depression, and/or anxiety. According to the Philippine Statistics Office, mental illness is the 3rd most common disability in the country (August, 2020).
Moreover, in the West Pacific Region, the country is ranked as having the 3rd highest incidence of Mental health problems. The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly contributed to an increase in mental health problems.

I have so much insights from the workshop and I know I’ll need a lot of time to review my notes to gain much more. Very thankful to everyone involved in this for organizing the workshop!

I like how the topics were presented in a practical and realistic way. It covers some realistic experiences which allowed me to understand it easily. I also like the part where the facilitators are having an exchange of conversation while bringing in the key points that are related to the topic which has been discussed. It was helpful in a way that participants can also engage in the conversation though unfortunately I did not really engaged myself as I was shy and nervous when it comes to sharing my thoughts.

The speakers are so enthusiastic and it is contagious. The lectures are very relatable. I feel so lucky to have attended this.

I thank you for the knowledge shared. It is not my first time to hear the topics and details, but the presentation still got my interest and attention. I loved the lively presentation.

Thanks for this workshop. It made me realize how much I work too hard and overlook the needs of my family and the things I can do to have better relationships/communication with my husband and child.

It was very helpful in understanding the causes and impact of anxiety to us especially now that we are really feeling the effect of the WFH set up and lack of socialization with other people.

As practitioners in our respective fields, it is also important to get in touch with our own personal issues and if given the opportunity, be open to processing such.

it’s nice that it is in a Philippine setting -counseling that caters to filipinos. I appreciate It a lot.

It helps in realizing the importance of understanding one self, family, work place down to the community in order to be more effective in serving the clients or the needy. The Ugat foundation has a job well done facilitators. keep it up and stay safe every one.

Natuto akong magtiwala sa sarili, always do my best..at higit sa lahat ay mag-try nang mag-try at huwag mawalan ng pag-asa.

My experience here with UGAT has been exhilarating. I learn so much whenever we do the Anak Workshop. A lot has changed in me since I joined UGAT. I feel like I’ve become closer to God. Maybe He knows that what I am doing is right and we are able to help the kids. I am happy when the kids share with me because they trust me so much. That’s why even if it’s so exhausting, I still give my best for them.

The workshop was really nice, I just hope that more people can attend this kind of workshop and by doing that, it would be nice if you were able to establish partnerships with different schools as a form of invitation for the said/future workshops aside from promoting it in your Facebook Page.
Overall, I just want to thank you for providing us a meaningful experience through this workshop. It was indeed worth it! I do really appreciate your efforts – Ms. Ingrid, Ms. Sarah, Ms. Ciello, Ms. Terry and Fr. Nilo!

P.S.. Aside from listening to the topics alone, I also learned a lot as to how you (facilitators) do the processing and how you handled the group sessions. I hope I could also grow in my profession just like how I see it in you (facilitators)! Actually, you really inspired me to develop myself more in the counseling field and I thank you for that. ^-^
All the best on your future workshops! You all did great po! <3

The speakers are very engaging. They successfully managed the forum to have interactions via zoom.

Very good workshop, it is engaging and interactive. The speakers are very knowledgeable and effective.

I like how well Fr. Nilo explains the concepts and techniques, to the point of translating it to our local language

I really loved the question, “What is arising now in your awareness?” It allows the client to be present with themselves. The genogram was also helpful in understanding one’s self and our clients. By visualizing familial relationships, it allows us to see how our families have influenced our lives and our functioning. This can help us pinpoint automatic responses and be more aware of how we really want to respond to situations and experiences.

The workshop has significantly helped me on a more personal level. It has unearthed a lot of repressed emotions and it also unburdened me in so many ways. It has prepared me mentally and emotionally as I plan to embark on a new mission/program in the orphanage

Very comprehensive in terms of content and the progression of the topics was really good.
Discussing the different skills/methods and helping process in counselling. Also, the demo really helped us to apply what we learned from the topics.

I liked the facilitators the most because they find many different views to the scenarios before they give their answers and they also make sure to listen to all of our thoughts as participants.

Participants’ tasks or activities are creative. I especially like that they use different methods of acquiring the participants’ insights on the topic.

I like it that the facilitators keeps encouraging their audience to participate the activity
